Things to do on the perfect vacation in Philadelphia

Philadelphia… Philadelphia… The Quaker City… The City of Brotherly Love. If you’re taking a family vacation to the city, you won’t be short of fun and exciting things to do and see. Here is my suggested itinerary for your perfect Philadelphia vacation:

1. Enjoy the story

Old City, Philadelphia is the most historic place in the United States, bar none. It houses Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were debated, ratified, and signed, as well as the Betsy Ross House, where the first American flag was planted, Congress Hall, where both the House of Representatives such as the United States Senate met when Philadelphia was the nation’s capital (1790-1800) and the home and printing press of Ben Franklin.

Plan to spend at least one full day taking in the sights in Philadelphia’s historic Old City.

2. See a museum

Philadelphia is home to dozens of world-class museums. Plan to see at least one, or better yet, two or three, during your stay here. My favorite museum is the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology (“The Penn Museum”), which features thousands of artifacts from ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire, Greece, China, and more.

Other great museum options include the Philadelphia Museum of Art, home to a world-class collection, the new National Museum of American Jewish History, the Rodin Museum, and the quirky Mutter Museum, which is full of intriguing but beautifully presented medical curiosities. taste.

3. Eat!

Few cities in the United States are home to better restaurants, chefs, and foodies than Quaker City. Be sure to come hungry and eat often. Great options include any of more than a dozen celebrity chef Stephen Starr’s restaurants, one of more than 5 restaurants owned by Philadelphia resident and Food Network Chef Iron José Garcés, and the bustling gastropubs and BYOB scenes of the city.

The city has a great gastronomic culture. For reviews of the city’s best restaurants, check out Philadelphia Magazine and food critic Craig LaBan’s columns of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

4. See a show

Home to the oldest operating theater in the country (the Walnut Street Theatre), Philadelphia has a long tradition of theater. While you’re in town, catch a traveling Broadway show, see the world-renowned Philadelphia Orchestra (“The Fabulous Philadelphians”), enjoy the Pennsylvania Ballet, or catch a smaller show at one of the city’s many theaters.

No matter when you come to Philadelphia, there is a world of entertainment, dining, and cultural attractions waiting for you. Be sure to plan a visit to the City of Brotherly Love soon!
