Laser Tattoo Removal FAQ: What is white frosting caused by laser tattoo removal?

Even though tattoos are more popular than ever, several people regret that these permanent pieces of art are drawn on their bodies. Fortunately, the latest laser technology can now remove unwanted and unwanted tattoos with relative ease.

It is natural to have some concerns about the side effects of laser tattoo removal, one of which concerns the white frosting that sometimes appears as a result of this treatment.

What is white frosting?

Rapid local heating of the skin pigment, leading to the formation of gas or plasma, causes the formation of white frost that is seen during and after laser treatment. Carbon dioxide is released as a result of the penetration of the laser and the surfaces of the top layer of the skin, which resembles a white glaze.

In the vast majority of cases, this only lasts 15-30 minutes after treatment. It is a temporary side effect, which is perfectly normal. White frosting is always evident during the first treatment, but once more ink is removed from later sessions, it won’t appear as much.

Is white frosting good or bad?

It may not look great, but the white frosting you see during laser tattoo removal is very good. This reaction indicates that the laser is penetrating the ink effectively. Besides that, it also shows that your body is reacting and healing quickly.

As soon as the laser hits your skin, it can go in several different directions. Some light paths will reflect off the skin, while others will penetrate the epidermis and dermis. However, we are interested in those that reach the ink particles, are absorbed into the skin and cause the formation of white frost.

Are there other side effects?

Although everyone’s body reacts differently to laser tattoo removal, some common side effects include:

Blisters – Another indication that the healing process has begun, blisters are nothing to worry about and, while tender, they take 3-14 days to disappear.

Scabbing – Around 8 to 72 hours after treatment, scabs may appear over the affected area. Removing or peeling them can increase the risk of scarring; so drop them naturally.

Swelling – Your body’s natural defense system may kick in and cause some swelling after treatment. But this will decrease soon and is not a cause for concern.

Discomfort: Most people will experience some discomfort, but this usually depends on the location of the tattoo. Afterward, you may also feel like itching, but in general our patients report that the feel of the laser is the same as getting an ink tattoo in the first place.
