10 tips to combat stress and fatigue

If you have been told that you are a workaholic, you may want to take note. You don’t have to have an 8 to 5 job to be a workaholic. When the balance tips toward constant work of any kind rather than work-play balance, you probably know it, but you may not be hearing the signs and symptoms along the way. By ignoring the signs, stress can cause serious health problems.

Your body can tell you that you are under too much stress due to insomnia, a desire to overeat, fatigue, and fuzzy thinking with trouble remembering and concentrating. I add binges, because many turn directly to comfort food when stress escalates.

As stress continues to weigh on the body, the immune system will suffer and the collapse of the system is inevitable.

Here are some tips for coming out of stress and fatigue once your body starts waving a red flag:

  1. Take an inventory of your life to determine if there is anything you are deeply unhappy about, including work, relationships, weight, etc. If some area of your life is crying out for attention, then address it. Seek the help of a professional or a friend or go on a retreat and regroup your priorities.
  2. Are you eating too much candy? Sugar is addictive and has been known to cause health problems. Reduce your intake of sugar or eliminate it entirely from your diet. Poor nutrition will affect your mood, especially too much sugar.
  3. Exercise every day, even for 15-20 minutes a day. Exercise doesn’t have to be aerobic or heavy. Gardening, walking, or dancing around the house to your favorite music will do you a lot of good for improving circulation and fatigue.
  4. Regular massage relieves toxins and tension that may have built up in the muscles due to stress. Bring your own bottle of emu oil and have it rubbed into sore muscles. Your skin will feel silky smooth and you will also get temporary relief from sore muscles. Make sure the emu oil you buy has the seal of the American Emu Association or it may be contaminated.
  5. It is always a good idea to retire to a beautiful and peaceful environment, be it for a day or a weekend to recharge. When you return you will see things with a clearer mind.
  6. Be productive and content with concentrating only on today. The burden of yesterday’s problems plus tomorrow’s worries may be too heavy. The heavy load weighs you down and fatigue sets in. Overload makes you want to sleep, but worrying thoughts create insomnia.
  7. Take the day off and visit a homeless shelter to volunteer and give to others. Your spirit will soar with gratitude and appreciation.
  8. Take a day just to daydream. Your mind can manifest anything that you focus on and believe in. If you constantly focus on worries and problems, you magnify and attract those things into your life. Instead, magnify the good things you would like to see in your life. You should exercise this for at least a few minutes a day.
  9. Be grateful for what you have. Make a list of the good things in your life and think about them daily.
  10. Stay away from multitasking. Studies have shown that we do more when we focus on one thing at a time.
