St. John Vacation Escapes – The Last Virgin Among the Virgin Islands

A true standout among the Virgin Islands, this secluded getaway should be on everyone’s “places to see before you die” list. Most of the island is a National Park, ensuring that it doesn’t get crowded with tourists, hotels, and package deals any time soon. Here are several villas in St. John that are definitely worth checking out:

Villa Cielomar. This wonderful vacation villa is steps from the ocean. This two bedroom villa is perfect for anyone looking to hide away for a relaxing holiday. There are three beds, although the two doubles can be pushed together to make a king bed in the second bedroom (which can comfortably sleep four to six). The little pool overlooking the water is beautiful! The going rate is $1900-$2700 per week depending on the season.

Saint John Castle. The only similarity with Villa Cielomar is a great ocean view. If you are looking for an absolutely stunning view and don’t mind being further from the beach, this modern villa is the place for you. Overlooking what appears to be the entire ocean, you can enjoy the rustic appeal and stone-clad architecture (yes, it really does look like a castle) of this truly one-of-a-kind building. On the upper terrace is a chessboard with almost life-size pieces, which is great to play just before taking an outdoor shower at sunset. Beware, this place is habit forming…

Cinnamon Bay Camp. A change to the other end of the price spectrum, this campground offers small fifteen-by-fifteen-foot cabins that sleep four people. Includes electricity, table, stove, grill, kitchen utensils, and cooler. During low season, you can get one for less than eighty dollars, although high season rates shoot up to around $160 a night (a bit high in my opinion). If this is still a bit too expensive, try their tents, which are $65 per night, and include the same amenities as the cabins.
