My first time publishing a Kindle eBook on Amazon and how you can do the same

When I was young in my high school years, I discovered that I was good when it came to creative writing. Then I usually excel in compositions in English, either in an English quiz or exam.

I could easily make up an imaginative story and do it so well that you would think it really happened. If you ask me to recall an interesting experience on my last long vacation; I know you just made my day. I will write and write as if my life depended on it. It came naturally to me and I loved it. I found it so easy to do.

I had thought that I would be a writer/author, when I grew up. But along the line, I lost interest in writing and found myself in the Accounting profession. But writing was still easy for me.

I lost interest and didn’t pursue a career, especially after reading so many rejection stories from aspiring writers whose 200-300 page books were rejected by every publisher they were sent to. All of them had nothing for their efforts except the rejection letter. I wasn’t ready for that. Imagine spending years writing what you think is a masterpiece, only for your dream to turn into a nightmare. I wanted to save myself from this agony. That’s why I lost interest in pursuing the dream of writing.

Then came Amazon and Kindle Books. Amazon created Kindle Reader and needed unlimited content that people could read on their eReader. They had to encourage people to write and upload all kinds of content on their platform. Thus Kindle Direct Publishing was born.

Many aspiring writers saw this opportunity and jumped at it. Soon there were many stories of people making a living from this. There was even an unknown writer named Amanda Hocking who made over a million US dollars from the platform.

Every day I saw that my dream of being a writer through Kindle and Amazon could come true again. So I decided to give it a try. I had to publish my first eBook on the Kindle platform.

In this article, I am going to write my experience.

I remember it like yesterday. I wrote a story about a girl who had a vision of Jesus Christ. Let’s say she had an encounter with Jesus Christ who led her on a tour of Heaven and Hell.

I think I read the story several years ago as a child, but it stuck with me as a young man from a Christian background; my grandfather was a pastor and founder of a church.

It took me one day to make the eBook and another day to do the editing. And I was ready with my first eBook for the Kindle platform.

From the beginning I found the Kindle platform intuitive and very easy to use. He was both surprised and relieved. Uploading my first eBook was a breeze because the Kindle platform automatically converts your document file (in my case, a Word document) to the Kindle format. You don’t have to do any conversion yourself. Simply upload the Word document and you’re ready to go.

Uploading your ebook cover is also easy. But let me confess here that the ecover almost pushed me off the shelf. Let me explain; I had no technical knowledge of graphic design. I thought it was difficult and that I might not be able to do it. How wrong I was.

When I plucked up the courage and decided to go for it, I discovered that Amazon even has its own ecover maker that anyone can use to make a simple yet beautiful ecover. That’s what I used and it was very easy too.

Once I uploaded my Word document manuscript and ecover, my eBook was approved and published on Amazon Marketplace within hours. I still remember the feeling. Now he was an author. My childhood dream and vision has come true.

While loading my e-book, I discovered that anything I wasn’t sure about was pretty much covered on the Amazon site. If there is something you don’t understand and you want a human answer, you can email Support and get a response very soon.

There were several thousand titles in each category on the Kindle platform, and you needed to place your eBook in the correct category if you wanted to have a good chance of people discovering and purchasing your eBook.

You need to add keywords to help people search and find your ebook. If people can’t find or view your eBook, the chances of you making a sale are slim to none. This is how the place is very big with so many e-books.

After I published my eBook, every day I checked to see if I had made any sales. Soon I began to see sales trickle down. It wasn’t much but every day that I found that I made a sale was a very beautiful moment for me.

Let me tell you that back then (when I published my first eBook), the platform was not yet as advanced as it is now. The search for my sales was not like now. The results were specific to the various Amazon marketplaces. There are markets for USA, Canada, India, UK, Denmark, Germany, etc.

I was only reviewing sales for the US market. I thought the results I had in the US market were all I had. You can imagine my surprise when, by the time I received my first royalty payment, I discovered that I had made over $100 in my first month in the UK market. Hahahaha, I still laugh about it even now that I’m writing this article.

I’ve been writing and publishing Kindle eBooks on and off ever since. I have been doing this along with many other things online like blogging and affiliate marketing. I wish I had focused on Kindle when I realized that it has been a good source of income for me.

Even the first ebook still wins today and has done so repeatedly every month for a few years. Sometimes I imagine what it could have been like if I focused on Kindle publishing and now have like 100 e-books on my shelf at Amazon.

Maybe I could have retired now. It’s a joke. I will not withdraw online. It’s like a hobby for me. Every day I like to log online and browse a bit and I will continue to do so as long as I can. For me, it’s like reading.

Now back to my purpose of writing this article. I want to show you that you can do it. Anyone can write and earn money online using the Kindle platform. You just have to have a little knowledge, skill and desire to do it. Then get an ebook that teaches you how to do it.

There are many e-books on how to join and benefit from the Kindle platform. Many have written about this, including my humble self, because we want to help those who want to work and earn money online.

In this period of covid-19 and lockdown where many people are out of work, imagine what it can feel like to continue earning passive income from your kindle e-books.

As a Kindle publisher, you are your own boss and can work full-time or part-time from home. There is no need to travel daily. To see my own ebook on how anyone can easily join and benefit from kindle, see my byline at the bottom of this article. Make sure to check it out.

I encourage everyone to get on the Kindle platform. There is an eBook in everyone. You have an experience that can benefit someone, somewhere in a corner of the world. It could be how you lost your job and how you survived until you got another job. It could be about how you survived after a bitter divorce. You have a story that can benefit someone somewhere. Please write and share your knowledge with the world.

Get on the Kindle platform today. You never know; maybe you’re one of the Amanda Hockings. Yes, there are plenty of Amanda Hockings on the platform today – people who have made over a million dollars from Kindle publishing alone.

IT IS

Go for it. You can do it!
