Delkim bite alarms and their history

Delkim has been at the forefront of the bite alarm industry since the 1970s, first by converting the famous Optonic and Heron indicators and then by designing, developing and commercially producing its own Delkim bite alarms, which are now industry leaders. market in bite alarm technology.

Delkim, the company was formed by two well known carp anglers and bait developers from Kent named Del Romang and Kim Donaldson, after converting many friends’ bite alarms they decided to form a company and decided to put their names together to create the name, Delkim. Their first conversions were adding GPO phone speakers and LEDs to the Heron’s bite indicators, these were seen in some high profile circuit carp waters like the famous Darenth resort and soon Del and Kim were commissioned by many anglers to convert their alarms as well. .

The Optonic bite alarm made by Efgeeco in the early 80’s. The Optonic was a great revolution in the eyes of many anglers due to the roller mechanism which increased the sensitivity of the alarm without the need to reset the indicator after each bite, it could also detect dropped bites and false bites were eliminated, soon the Optonics became the only bite alarms for carp anglers and other specimen hunters such as pike and tench anglers. The only downside to the Optonics was that they were too quiet for night fishing and didn’t wake up some fast sleeping anglers. Del and Kim quickly realized this and began converting the Optonics with large GPO speakers and these conversions became the only proper indicator on most carp lakes. In 1986, due to legal issues, Delkim stopped converting Optonics and Del and Kim went their separate ways, but many can still be seen in many banks today.

In 1983, Del came up with the idea for vibration detection during a dream, ran downstairs apparently naked and tossed a piece of monofilament through a stylus and had that Eureka moment. After many years of design, development, and patent applications, Delkim’s first official bite alarm was produced. The design was a proprietary vibration sensor, the line runs on a ‘V’ shaped line guide and detects the slightest movement which conducts a small electrical voltage, the circuit then transmits this in a loud audible beep and illumination of a LED. The Delkim could detect the smallest movement of the line like no other indicator on the market and soon became the most popular with many anglers due to the ability to detect small vibrations and shock to the rod tip from the smallest movement. of the fish, which is especially useful when fishing at close range. to underwater snags and weeds, this obviously results in more detected bites and more carp on shore.

The Delkim range has progressed over the years and with new modern digital technology, bite alarms can incorporate remote digital speaker boxes and electronic flashing night lights that work with the bite indicator. The Delkim bite alarm is now an essential part of many carp anglers’ rig and you will see many of them on the shores of lakes across the UK and abroad, no doubt these indicators have contributed to many thousands of wet nets and proud captors.
