Christmas gifts for men – 2011

Christmas time can be the worst time on the gift-giving calendar, especially if you have a lot of people to shop with. Potential stress and pitfalls lie at every turn and even if you find a great gift, you probably still have three or four other men to please. So what do you get for the picky guys you meet? Take the stress out of the holiday season by considering these great gifts.

Have a bit of luxury. Every man will have received a simple scarf and set of gloves at some point in his life (more than once if you’re unlucky), so go ahead and go for a little luxury. Soft leather gloves and a warm cashmere scarf are a great way to be practical with a touch of decadence at the same time. (Plus, you won’t have to worry about which size to buy.)

Improve your money. While you can’t launder your money or fix your change, you can upgrade your wallet by buying something new from him. Leather wallets are a timeless classic, but they don’t have to be boring. If you’ve been lugging around your current piece since the dawn of time, spend something new and increase your money. Money clips can also be a great idea.

Get your childhood back. Make him a Christmas stocking and fill it with his favorite childhood sweets and retro video games. There are a lot of stores that sell retro items so go crazy and encourage him to relive his youth. You could also leave a note from ‘Santa’ to make it extra special.

Therapy. Not the kind that comes from sitting on a sofa (although you can also buy that if you think they’ll appreciate it, anything goes at Christmas!) but more of the massage and relaxation variety. Everyone wants to be pampered a bit, but therapy sessions can be very girly, so try to go a little harder. A sauna, massage, and outdoor hot tub should float everyone’s boat.

Do something. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, maybe you’ll make amazing chocolate truffles or epic mixed ribbons. Maybe you’re the kind of person that people talk about when they want to fix something or a painting or. Homemade gifts show that you care and put a lot of time and thought into the present, so think about what you’re good at and do something amazing.

Music. Since everyone loves music, why not consider helping you expand your music choices with a Spotify subscription? If you haven’t heard of Spotify yet, it’s a new service in the US (although it’s been running successfully in the UK for a few years), allowing users to legally stream songs and playlists from a huge music library and share your playlists with your friends. The free version is very limited and ad-supported, but the subscription version is excellent and could soon replace iTunes libraries as people’s main repository of music.
