Wet Saw Blades – Does Higher Price Really Equal Better Overall Performance?

Do you use asphalt cutting blades?

Concrete cutting saws are not new. They have been used by traditional and concrete cutting specialists for many years.

What is new, however, is how people source their saw blades and the varying cost and quality of concrete cutting tools currently on offer in today’s market.

Purchase of a wet saw blade – (As it was before)

  1. Find out the requirement for a diamond blade.
  2. Hit your neighborhood hardware store and ask the “guru” salesman for advice on which concrete saw blade you need for your job.
  3. Pay $200-$400 for the “best” wet saw blade for your needs.

Buying a Diamond Cutting Blade – (The New Way)

  1. discover the requirement of a diamond saw blade.
  2. Go online and search for diamond saw blades on Yahoo or Google.
  3. look closely at the top 3-5 results and examine the rates 4. buy from the supplier with the best price.

You just got yourself a bargain!

Or did you?

The difficulty with using a new brand of diamond blade (it doesn’t matter if you bought it online or offline) is that it’s extremely difficult to determine the quality of the blade “until your teeth hit the curb,” so to speak.

The salesperson at the DIY store will usually sell you their most expensive blade (even if it’s too much for your project), due to the fact that their job is to sell, not to serve your needs.

And if you buy online, you could end up with a concrete sheet that doesn’t perform as well as you would have liked.

The great news about the variety of wet saw blades available these days is that you can find some bargains, you can get quality blades at reasonable prices.

No longer do you need to shell out four hundred and fifty dollars for a dry diamond blade (just for the salesperson at the tool store to get his 300% markup).

Price is certainly an important aspect when buying diamond blades.

For example, getting a 14″ concrete cutting blade for $55 will not get you the kind of saw blade that will last a long time or cut with any degree of precision.

Now, however, you can buy laser welded blades, for less than two hundred dollars, that will do just about any job you can throw at it, properly and efficiently.

Depending on the materials you’re cutting, you might even opt for a wet-only concrete saw blade; In this situation, the price will be further reduced.

The three main factors that determine the quality and performance of concrete cutting blades are…

  1. Diamond content.
  2. Union segment.
  3. How the segments are attached to the core of the blades (laser welded, for example).

(Besides this list of 3, some horrible cheap blades are prone to shaking and vibrating since the core used is crap and not precision manufactured, but I guess you’ll stay away from these nasty blades)

Whether or not you arrange to buy your blades online or at the hardware store, you no longer need to spend a small fortune on your concrete cutting blades.

Ignore the advice of sales “gurus” to “spend all the money you can afford on a leaf leaf” and look for a reasonably priced (not $20) wet saw blade, and you should have a blade that will last a decent amount of time and cut effectively, if used correctly.
