Three traits of an actor/actress

There are many traits of an actor or actress, but I would limit myself to the three main traits that one should have as a performer. First let me start by saying that an actor in the Greek language is the one who plays, but in this sense it is the one who plays a dramatic character. The actor acts in performances and dramatic productions. They are involved in plays, theater, cinema, television and even radio. The performance is said to have shifted around 534 BC.

The first known person to take the stage and recite words meant to be someone other than themselves is Thespis. She performed at the Dionisio theater. Thespis told her narrative in song, third-person narrative, and dance. You may have heard of actors being called Thespians and this is mostly because of Thespis.

Unlike today, when we place our actors on high pedestals, in the early Middle Ages, actors were not known to be of high status. People tended not to trust the traveling actor very much. But now people have come to almost adore and even obsess over the actors.

One of the characteristics that an actor must have is technique and discipline. You must learn the ways of the art. You should be well familiar with the different acting styles. There’s method acting, presentation and performance acting, and acting as an opposite genre.

You must learn history to get to know the essence of art. The second trait you must have is creativity and the freedom to express yourself. You must be willing to make a fool of yourself for art. You have to be able to learn to let go and be as free as a child while maintaining that constant control of your craft.

The third technique to possess is the passion and energy it brings. When you love something and you love doing it, that in turn reflects on your performance. The feeling that an actor brings to the table is one of real, sincere emotion, and if you can find your passion for the part and the character you are playing, then you would give a phenomenal performance as an actor.

Learn to find that inner energy that you need to bring from the inside to the surface of the character. As an actor, you should always try to find common ground between you and the character so that your presence feels like one and not like you are playing the part but being the part.
