The different faces of kitchens

In layman’s terms, kitchens are a place where the magic of cooking happens. The kitchen is perhaps the busiest place in a house since in addition to cooking, the family also eats here. Therefore, this makes it a very important piece of a home as humans need food and food is stored and prepared in the kitchen. The layout and design of a kitchen sets the environment and atmosphere of the entire kitchen, which is why maximum attention must be paid. Some are made to set the mood for socializing, others to maximize productivity, and of course to give off that “I’m excited to cook” feeling.

Little do people know that there are numerous different types of cuisines. Here are some of the most popular types:

The L-shaped kitchen is a widely used kitchen design since it can be placed and fitted in a corner, giving more space to place appliances and furniture. An L-shaped kitchen has cabinets placed along two adjacent walls and these two walls create a triangle-shaped layout of the kitchen and this keeps the kitchen free of traffic. This design also helps to make a niche for a dining set.

Another style is the U-shaped layout. This type of layout makes use of three walls to create a “U” shape, and this helps maximize kitchen space. The stove, sink and refrigerator can be placed around a lot of countertop and provides enough space for furniture. In line with this is the G-shaped design. This, on the other hand, adds another short wall to the “U” shape, which would then produce a “G” shape. This creates more space and reduces traffic in the kitchen area.

The Galley style is one of the most efficient and simple designs. It is made to be used by two or more people at the same time. This layout uses two rows of space, making it easy to move from one station to the next. This is what makes it a very versatile design, since two people can work at the same time.

The last type is the island design. This provides a sort of island space for socializing that is separate from the main kitchen area. This is sometimes intended for food preparation while the guest or other family members may wait or watch. This design is quite popular in contemporary kitchen designs.

When choosing kitchen designs and layouts, comfort and versatility should always come before aesthetics. It’s better to have a kitchen space that’s comfortable rather than one that’s pretty to look at, but not built for maximum productivity.
