Show trends for home and garden

The recent spring home and garden shows showcase the latest trends in home design and remodeling. Some of those trends include:

turning green- Energy efficient HVAC systems and appliances save you money on your utility bills and can save you money on your taxes too. Homeowners doing renovation or remodeling work on their primary residence can deduct 30% of the cost of a project, up to $1,500. Many exhibitors touted the tax benefits of geothermal heating systems, high-efficiency solar panels, solar water heating systems, insulated vinyl siding, and solar roof fans.

luxury features – Homeowners may have cut their remodeling budgets, but some luxury items are still in style, including bigger and better hot tubs, built-in wine racks for the kitchen, and water fountains on and off decks. Faux finishes and murals for ceilings and walls still appeal to many consumers, but in a nod to recent green awareness, some companies are now advertising the use of low VOC paints.

Recent trends are still popular – Year-round sunrooms remain an affordable remodeling option for many homeowners. Granite is still the most important thing in kitchen countertops, although Silestone and other manufactured stone finishes are still a viable option. The popularity of glass tile continues to grow, and stainless steel continues to be the finish that most consumers prefer for appliances.

Do it yourself – The economic recession has created a resurgence of interest in DIY, especially among women. Several booths displayed ergonomic tools and tools designed specifically for women, down to a smaller size and pink or purple handles.
