Network marketing is a team sport

Here is another network marketing strategy that you should consider.

I want to share today about how network marketing is a team sport. Let me start with a story from when I was in elementary school. All through school I played sports, starting in the fifth grade. I played Pop Warner football, basketball, and Little League baseball. Now you may be wondering what that has to do with network marketing, which, in and of itself, has nothing to do with network marketing. However, I think this story gets the message across.

So here is my story, I remember in 6th grade I played basketball for my school every Saturday morning during basketball season. We played every Saturday where the high school team played, we were very good. We were Jeff, Carl, Terry and I and another person who I really don’t remember who it was. Our coach was an assistant coach for the high school team, his name was Dean Evans. He was a very good coach and knew a lot about basketball. He designed this play that was set up for a jump between two. Terry was the designated person who made the jump between two, and the man could jump, most of the time he would get the tip. Going back to the play, it was designed for Terry to pass the ball to me, and as soon as that happened, Carl was to drop it to the basket, and I’d throw the ball to Carl, and he was to make a layup. He was to follow behind Carl in case he missed the layup. This particular Saturday we were playing a very good team, we were behind. There we were in the middle of the court for a jump between two. Terry took the tip and passed it to me and immediately Carl let go, and I calmly hit him with the layup pass. In this particular case it failed, but I was there as written, to drop it. It was quite exciting. A little side note we went on to win the game.

So you might be wondering what the hell that story has to do with network marketing. This is how it relates, in my opinion, I see network marketing as a team sport. Everyone on the team is needed to contribute to the overall success of everyone on the team and the team itself. Each person on the team has a role to play and as long as everyone does their part, it works. If someone doesn’t do their part, it may still work not so well and maybe not for them. Just like in my story, Terry had to pass the ball to someone other than himself for this play to work, every one of his team did his part and that’s why we scored. After all these years, that’s still on my mind and it’s a highlight of my basketball days when I was in sixth grade. Terry couldn’t have done it alone and neither could I, each of us needed to do our part to make it work.

My experience tells me that it is the same in network marketing or in a home business. We hear the saying all the time that you are in business for yourself, but not for yourself, but most of the time we are not only in business for ourselves, but also for ourselves. That scenario doesn’t work very well in any case. In this industry, what happens most of the time is that people will bring people into the business but they won’t be there after the fact. That’s not how it’s supposed to be, yes it’s called network marketing, but don’t forget to network after you’ve brought it along. If you want to be successful in any business, what you do or should do is surround yourself with people smarter than you. If you’re not going to be there to help people succeed, don’t bring them into the business, you’re just setting them up for failure. This is a team sport, I don’t know the person on your team who tips the ball, and I don’t know who catches the ball and passes it to score. This, I know, requires each of us to do what we can to get to the place where we can score. In this industry, it’s about people, not just individuals or superstars, it’s about teams and helping, supporting and encouraging each other to stay focused and stay on track.
