Las Vegas Romantic Getaway

Our two night romantic getaway started on a Tuesday in late July and it was excellent. It was hot outside (109 degrees Fahrenheit), but what an oasis inside the hotel.

BEDROOMS. We were looking for a quick romantic getaway in Vegas while celebrating Kevin’s birthday and found it at the Rio. Here’s our review of what you can expect from the rooms when you book your romantic getaway here. We’ll review the food at the hotel we stayed in in a future blog post, but for now, let’s take a look at the rooms, or suites, I should say, at The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A wonderful night’s sleep.

ROOM: It’s huge! And the bed… OH THE KING SIZE BED! We slept for 12 hours straight. The nice thick mattress was like falling on a cloud. The size of the suite was at least double what you’d find elsewhere and includes a sofa, comfortable chair, work desk for two, and flat screen TV.

Yes, there are some cons, which I will mention, but the pros of our room far outweigh the things that are easily overlooked.

Advantage: Since we are artists, we notice the wall art right away. Art is beautiful and relaxing. A watercolor of rolling hills and an ethereal sky hangs above the loveseat and is the first thing we see upon waking. “Good morning world!”

Above the bed is a soft purple and gold image of a peaceful outdoor scene. At the foot of the bed and to the right was a huge wooden TV cabinet and a pay-per-use bar. Around the dividing wall and near the front door we found a long storage unit and on top there was a Keurig coffee maker and complimentary coffee items, drawers to store clothes, a hair dryer, a sink and a door. sliding with double glass mirror with a mini fridge inside. The bathroom included a toilet of course, a large tub/shower with a curtain and another sink with plenty of counter space. Four stylized lamps, a large wall mirror made it easy to choose soft lighting. Each suite has a view from its wall of windows. For us, when we look up a bit (11th floor), we can see many of the Strip hotels: Whyndham, Trump, Encore, Wynn, Treasure Island, Palms, and Mirage. The room is wonderfully soundproofed and all night long the only thing we could hear was the soft hum of the wonderfully cold air conditioning. The room was immaculately clean and the tile floors were polished to a high gloss. We even had a dressing table with a chair and a large mirror for easy makeup application.

Cons: The carpet is old and needs to be replaced. The door to room 1187 doesn’t close properly. We returned from a night out to find our door ajar. That Keurig coffee maker we mentioned earlier? You’ll pay $8 for a box of coffee pop-ins from the in-room bar (there seems to be enough for about 3 cups of coffee). There is also a Starbucks downstairs by the elevator in the Impanema tower. The flat screen TV is quite small. In some places, the wallpaper is in need of repair or replacement. The mini fridge was cold but not cold enough and not adjustable. The view from floor-to-ceiling windows with blackout curtains and net curtains as you look down is of industrial air conditioning units, delivery bays, and asphalt, parking, and industrial buildings. The bathroom, like most hotels nowadays, has no ventilation, so when you take a shower, the mirror steams up quickly, and there are no windows in the room to vent the steam.

Ours was a vacation of work and time together, so while we were working at the desk with our items, we found the cold air conditioning blowing on our backs annoying and distracting, but where else were they going to put it? We just learned to work faster.

We look forward to Rio’s semi-annual offer and our price for two nights, which included 12% sales tax and a $25 per night resort fee (which is taxable, like room), internet and free parking, was from $154.56

We wondered what was included in the resort fee and found it was for in-room Wi-Fi, gym access, in-room local/tool-free calls, and access to their Rio Spa and Salon. More on that in a future article.

Rest assured, the cons are not enough to keep us from returning or encourage you to enjoy a quiet, romantic getaway with your significant other at a very reasonable price.

When it comes to the view from our Impanema Court room, look up, not down. The carpet? Keep the lights low. The fridge? Bring your own cooler. Television? Turn it off and enjoy some much-needed time together.
