Holidays in Corfu: a nightlife by the sea

Once an island reserved solely for the royal and very privileged, Corfu now ranks as one of the most popular attractions in Europe. The oligarchs on their Corfu holidays populate the opulent northeast along with the famous Rothschild family, proving that Corfu is still an island of some reputation. The Ionian Island was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2007. Corfu is an island with many floors in both myth and popular literature. Homer’s Odyssey refers to parts of the island, particularly the landing of the hero Odysseus.

Continuing the privileged theme, luxury holidays in Corfu offer some of the best secluded accommodation in Greece. The properties located on the historic hills overlook the lucid Ionian Sea and, at night, capture the beautifully lit bay. Kalami offers guests romantic views of the sleepwalking city. Kalami Beach allows for romantic evening walks along a wooden path, keeping the sand out of your shoes. Kalami Beach is particularly good for family holidays in Corfu, as the beach has a natural cove that protects it from the waves and ensures the safety of young children.

Visitors to the Greek island can expect a festive atmosphere, especially in the months of May and August. First of all, there is the anniversary of the unification of the Ionian Islands with Greece, which offers grand banquets with dancing until late at night. This is perhaps the most important festival in Corfu. The Strinillas Pantokratoras festival showcases the same evening dance, ending with an impressive pilgrimage to the hilltop monastery.

The location of the Corfu monasteries allows for the most spectacular views. At night, visitors will see the bay lit up like the glow of the deep ocean. The Kanoni Hills are an excellent vantage point, both by day and by night. St. George’s Bay in the northwestern part of the island should be considered one of the main sites on the island. The British influence continues with the Church of St. George, which stands next to a Venetian moat that populates the town of Palaio Frourio. A walk along its coast in the twilight makes it a short and unforgettable trip.

The old town is almost a focus of light with its buildings in perpetual light. Everything is white at ground level, which means sightseeing at night is just as effective. Perhaps this is one of the most unique opportunities on a Corfu holiday. The properties, along with the monuments, display Venetian art mostly carved from white stone. There is also a huge Roman influence on the architecture of Corfu, particularly the palatial buildings that were formally used to house the King of Greece and several important British rulers.

Corfiotes is synonymous with hospitality, and its island, full of culture and beauty, will be the perfect destination for a family or couple.
