I have fond memories of riding in plastic toy cars as a child. And now, there is a much higher level of detail and quality in these toys (kids today are very lucky). I appreciate the metal and/or wood ones with upholstered seats, etc. But I’ll save my rant about all the different types for another time…for now, I just want to give you some ideas about the fun you can have with these ride-on toys! Here is a list of fun ideas to have with your child and his driver’s license:

Host as a play date activity
Pedal cars and other ride-on toys keep children entertained for a long time and are a great outdoor activity. Many parks have paved trails that are perfect for biking and that children can explore together. Whatever their style of pedal car, pedal plane or pedal train, the number of games and adventures they go on is limitless.

have a mini race
Participating in a mini-race can be as simple as getting together with a bunch of friends with their own go-karts and racing along a safe path, or it can be more complicated, like taking part in organized races. If your child is very interested, he might even love having his own personalized toy car. Imagine a go-kart customized with “sponsor” logos as they take part in their first organized race!

Decorate and have a parade
I remember my neighborhood friends and I would decorate our bikes with streamers and glue a playing card to the spokes to make that “click-click-click” sound. This is how we decorated our bikes for our “parade”. Then we would invite the neighborhood to watch us drive by (on a relatively safe and quiet street). I imagine a go-kart parade would be much more interesting!

Wait at a pedal car show
This would be enjoyed by adults and children alike! Travel or host your own “mini” car show to engage others interested in pedal-powered toys. There are several events focused on ride-on toys. Many of these are of interest to fans of pedal cars, airplanes, and trains. A simple Google search for “pedal car shows” turned up several events. If you, as a parent or caregiver, have an interest in pedal vehicles, what a great event to attend with a child!

Even from this short list of ideas, it’s easy to see why these types of toys can be a great hobby for kids and adults alike. This is a great way to bond with your child and will provide memories to last a lifetime!
