Develop an Inclusive Attitude (Inclusivity)

What do I mean by my inclusive attitude or inclusivity?

‘The tendency to include either people, points of view or material products in groups, discussions, product lines, etc.’

Why is the concept of inclusion so important in human relationships?

‘Inclusion or an inclusive attitude is important in human relations because it implies that we welcome people instead of excluding them. The desire to include as many people as possible in discussions.

Inclusion means being open to many points of view instead of being limited to a few.’

How does inclusion apply to you in real life?

‘It means asking for the opinion of many people, considering the feelings of many people and being open to different cultural, gender, lifestyle and racial points of view.’

The opposite of inclusion, of course, is exclusivity, and although exclusivity can be a good idea when applied to designer clothing or accessories. May be toxic when applied to human institutions.

The concept of exclusivity or an exclusive attitude is at the heart of corruption, wars and many other problems in the world today. This is because exclusivity implies the exclusion of people according to some criteria that is the root of discrimination and prejudice.

Exclusivity breeds an atmosphere of us and them, pitting one group against another. It highlights differences between people and leads to tension and violence between groups.

However, inclusion or an inclusive attitude creates an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork among all groups in society. It highlights the things we have in common and allows us to relate to each other across the full spectrum of human beliefs and activities, rather than forcing us to define ourselves through our opinions on a limited number of issues.

We are all different and inclusion allows us as people to take advantage of our different talents, abilities, points of view and ways of thinking, making us stronger for it. Exclusivity, on the other hand, divides us in this sense and makes us weaker.

By the way, the word inclusion does not exist in the dictionary unlike its counterpart exclusivity. In my opinion, this serves to illustrate a trend towards exclusion in society. My goal is for it to be a word and we can achieve that by being inclusive and saying that we fight for inclusion.

So I say ‘be inclusive!’ Try to include more people in your life. Open yourself to new points of view. Try to be respectful of other people’s opinions and beliefs and compliment people when they have a good point, even if you disagree with yours.

By being more tolerant and considerate of others, you will make yourself and the people around you happy. We can’t change the world overnight, but we can improve our own lives.
