Details about the sports-loving fans in Cincinnati and their teams

Cincinnati, Ohio has been referred to by many different things including the Queen City, The City of Seven Hills, and even Porkopolis to name just a few. Cincinnati psychologists say it’s a smaller Midwestern city located directly on the Ohio River, and while conservative in many ways, its outgoing and energetic love of sports definitely shines through. Cincinnati is home to two major professional sports teams, according to Cincinnati psychiatrists, and a host of college teams that also make a name for themselves. Most of the favorite sports here are the old tried and true football, basketball and baseball and this article will describe some of those teams.

The Cincinnati Bengals are the professional football team here and Paul Brown Stadium is a newly built 2004 addition located right on the Ohio River and was ranked in the top 150 best buildings and structures in America and only Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium have higher ratings. Marvin Lewis is the head coach and some of the team’s favorite players are Chad Johnson, who is almost as famous for legally changing his last name to his jersey number, Ochocinco and Carson Palmer. The Bengals had a good last season as AFC North champions and recently lost to the NJ Jets in the playoffs.

The other professional sports team in Cincinnati is the baseball team known as the Cincinnati Reds. They have the historical advantage of being the first professional baseball team in the United States dating back to 1869, when they were first known as the Cincinnati Red Stockings. The Reds are famous for their home run hitter Johnny Bench and the Pete Rose gambling scandals. They play at the Great American Ballpark, which is also right on the Ohio River, where many people anchor their boats in the summer and try to get a free seat to the game. The Reds’ current coach is Dusty Baker and they hope to one day recreate the same type of program as the Big Red machine of the 1970s.

Cincinnati does not have a professional basketball team as the Cleveland Cavaliers are the only one in the state of Ohio. However, they have a wide variety of universities that have very good basketball programs to follow. Two of the biggest fan favorites for college hoops are the University of Cincinnati and Xavier, who also have a huge rivalry with each other. A few years ago, Xavier had a very successful team, and as a result, his head coach was recruited by the University of Arizona, where he now coaches. These college shows not only draw huge crowds in Cincinnati, but so do the high school basketball games.

Although it is not a city many aspire to live in, the people who live here love it and support everything that is a part of that city, including its sports programs, whether they win or lose.
