Growing up in the Orange County, California area, life was easy. We had a great house that my father had practically paid for and I had a wonderful mother who was truly an incredibly resourceful cook. She could create delicious three-course meals out of whatever she could find in the refrigerator. This talent became very important after the death of my father and my mother had to work twice as hard to keep the growing stomachs of my 2 brothers and me full.
