2012 Morehouse College Football Highlights

The Morehouse College Maroon Tigers will kick off their 2012 football season on Labor Day weekend. A preseason poll of coaches in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) predicted Morehouse would finish first in its Eastern Division. The first three games of the 2012 season are against non-conference opponents. The remaining seven games will be tough conference matchups.

Morehouse will play Howard University in the AT&T Nationwide Soccer Classic on September 1 in Washington, DC. This is an annual game between two historically black college or university football teams. The game will be played at RFK Memorial Stadium, kicking off at 3:30 pm The Maroon Tigers will also be away on September 8. They are scheduled to take on Edward Waters College in Waycross, Georgia. On September 15, Morehouse will travel to Cleveland, Ohio for a matchup against Winston Salem State University in the 2012 Cleveland Football Classic. The Rams will be a tough opponent. They finished their 2011 season with an impressive 13-1 record and were CIAA conference champions.

The Maroon Tigers’ first opponent in a home game will be conference rival Lane College on September 22. Morehouse defeated the Dragons in last year’s game 25-21, following a Tiger touchdown with about a minute left on the clock. Morehouse will face Clark Atlanta University on September 29 at 7 pm at Panther Stadium. The 2011 game against Clark Atlanta was an easy win for Morehouse.

On October 6, Morehouse will travel to Columbus, Georgia for the 77th Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic. The Maroon Tigers will face the Golden Tigers at 3:00 pm at AJ McClung Memorial Stadium. This matchup is the oldest rivalry between historically black colleges and universities. Many Morehouse fans should be able to make the 1.5-hour drive south of campus. Morehouse is back at home on October 13 in a matchup against the Albany State University Golden Rams. Always a tough conference opponent, Albany State beat Morehouse last year by a score of 25-15. Morehouse will perform at Benedict College on October 29 in Columbia, South Carolina.

October 27 is the homecoming against Fort Valley State University. The start will be at 2:00 p.m. Special events on Homecoming Weekend will include an alumni golf tournament, parade, party and Morehouse College National Alumni Association brunch. The last game of the season will be Morehouse vs. Kentucky State University at home at 2 p.m.

Morehouse College’s 9,000-capacity BT Harvey Stadium is located at the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. and Vende Ave. SE in Atlanta. Ticket prices for a single game are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Tickets for the homecoming game are $18 for adults and $12 for students.
