Why do we have laws if we don’t enforce them?

There should be a law. This signature line, from a popular comic strip, unfortunately, only tells part of the story! While there are certainly still many violations, which we should seriously address, simply enacting another law, it is a somewhat pointless step, because unless / until we enforce any rule, it becomes quite useless and with very limited meaning. . . This is true, whether we consider basic and simple rules, locally, or, as far as what we witness, nationally and internationally. With that in mind, this article will briefly attempt to consider, examine, review, and discuss what this means and represents, and why, if we so wish, to follow the Rule of law, we must ensure, we must be safe, we are addressing, significant concerns, that matter and make a difference, and, why, if we do not give some teeth to the app, they become a waste of time.

1. Local laws / rules: Don’t park on the grass gold No parking, or, other ground rules, if ignored, terminated, no longer followed and / or observed! When we shrug our shoulders, when drivers fail to stop, stop signs, or constantly accelerate, etc., this behavior is considered normal and acceptable! When pedestrians routinely Jay – Walk, and there is no penalty, why bother with a law? If there are maintenance requirements, such as shoveling after snowstorms, keeping the sidewalk, etc., and no one is penalized, when they do not meet them, it may be time to question what we are doing. If there are, water conservation, requirements and homeowners, don’t look at them, how do these laws make a significant difference? While many areas have zoning regulations, when major developers routinely receive variances, why even bother with having them?

2. Nacional level: National laws are supposed to be based on the United States Constitution, yet we have witnessed a period in which specific, personal / political agendas and self-interest seem to dominate certain rights, freedoms, and Justice for! everybody! The recent dispute between two of the branches of government, the Executive and the Legislative, which should be resolved / addressed by the Balance of Powers, if the Constitution was followed, the supervision of Congress would be granted automatically. Yet we have all seen President Trump, demanding of the people in his administration, refusing to testify, even when there are subpoenas. While this should be able to be resolved, by the third branch, the judiciary, many of the recent judicial candidates seem to have a specific, pro-Trump orientation, so even this response is not automatic! The rule of law seems to be questioned on a daily basis in areas such as these balances, war powers, budgetary / fiscal power, perceived, somewhat pervasive, perjury, etc.

3. International matters: When the United Nations was created, the intention would be to provide a stage where nations could discuss conflicts, irregularities and other issues, in the hope of avoiding further conflict. Yet once again, we have often witnessed very little enforcement and, increasingly, antisocial behavior.

Why bother with laws or rules if we don’t enforce them? We must consider, in what kind of neighborhood, region, nation and world we live, and if we want and need the rule of law!
