Tower Heist: It’s not just a robbery, it’s revenge

tower heist

Tower Heist was born about 6 years ago when Eddie Murphy had the idea for an all-black Oceans 11 starring himself and others like Martin Lawrence and Chris Tucker, but when the idea was formed, Eddie decided to leave the project and director Brett Ratner. he finally came up with the movie we have now with Murphy joining the cast.

The film centers on an exclusive high-rise apartment building where apartments cost millions to buy and residents are waited on hand and foot, the place we would all love to live. Filming took place in New York City, with a budget of $85 million and the Trump International Hotel & Tower was used for exterior filming.

Donald Trump allowed the filmmakers access to some of his exclusive properties and one gave them the idea for Shaw’s apartment, they also interviewed the staff who work in some of the more exclusive apartment buildings so they could get an idea of how they are managed, from doormen, to maids and kitchen staff.

Josh Kovacs (Ben Stiller) has worked as the building’s manager for several years and is loved by everyone, including billionaire owner Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda), but when the FBI arrests Shaw for fraud and it turns out he’s lost or stolen $ 2 billion and put him under house arrest in his penthouse, an act that if I ever get arrested, is where I would love to be put under house arrest. He has a rooftop pool with a mural of a hundred dollar bill on the floor and Shaw has a 1963 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso allegedly owned by Steve McQueen in the apartment. Josh needs to break the news to the employees that he has invested all of his savings with Shaw and it’s probably all gone and Shaw will most likely walk free.

Josh, who feels let down by Shaw, a man he trusted quarrels with him and is fired, along with his brother-in-law Charlie (Casey Affleck), who is the building’s concierge, and new elevator operator Enrique (Michael Pena). Josh meets up with these former employees and the maid Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe), who turns out to have some safe-breaking skills, after the building’s doorman, Lester, attempts suicide because he has lost his life savings.

The plan is to break into Shaw’s penthouse, where Josh is sure he is hiding $20 million, since none of the team have criminal skills aside from Odessa. Josh turns to an old childhood friend, Slide (Eddie Murphy), who is a petty criminal and together they try to put together a plan to rob a secure penthouse that is guarded by the FBI. Eddie Murphy seems to be back in his old school street smart comedy performance in the vein of Beverly Hills Cop and 48 Hrs.

The plot is good and features the likes of Matthew Broderick playing a bankrupt investor occupying the building who joins the team and Tea Leoni playing the leading role of the FBI as the tough female lead. The movie trailers look promising and the soundtrack by Christophe Beck sets the mood for the movie. Some of the scenes give the impression of a great movie, but I don’t want to spoil the movie by giving away scenes, but Eddie Murphy is back to his best. and he gets along with the other stars who play their roles perfectly.

Without having seen the movie, just the trailer and scenes, I think it looks a great movie, it is rated PG13 for language and sexual content and a running time of 104 minutes published by Universal, the official site is Tower Heist.
