Do the snakes take revenge?

Snakes are very common in tropical countries. In villages and leafy places, people come across snakes every day. Many beliefs have developed based on your experiences. The arrogance of humans that we are the only intelligent species in the world very easily discounted this possibility and began to find the only way to disprove it rather than find the truth. However, in truth, I believe that it is only human beings that have the least forgiving / forgiving mentality in the universe compared to any species of life and the highest instinct or anger for revenge.

There will be a lot of difference between snakes in captivity and in the wild. All the studies carried out were with snakes in captivity. However, myths or beliefs develop only around interesting or attractive species. Following this rule, almost all beliefs related to snakes wrap only around COBRAS. In addition, there are many types of beliefs about cobras, but in this article I will limit myself only to their power of revenge. Regarding his power of revenge, there are several types of beliefs,

  • If a cobra escapes wounded, when we try to kill it, it remembers and comes back to take revenge.
  • If a male cobra or a female cobra dies, the spouse takes revenge and dies.

In the famous book, Snakes of India by J. Deoras, he mentions that the most general cobra, Naja naja, when agitated or cornered, raises its hood and the front part of the body and if the attacker is in the vicinity of two and half a meter in circumference, he tries to attack to defend himself. If the person is far away, try to retreat and escape, unless there is no way. In this sense, I myself have personal experience. When I was doing my PhD in biochemistry at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India, due to the dense plantings and shrubs, we often used encounter snakes, including cobras. One day, someone saw a cobra (Naja naja) going down the hall. Because, the floor is made of polished stones, it couldn’t move fast. So we all ran out to see him. He was only dragging his body with difficulty. Some mischievous guy started to imitate him and got really close. Immediately, he turned with a great hiss and the hood expanded. The guy screamed and ran back. He showed no interest in chasing us or the boy. He simply turned his head back and escaped into the bushes.

In different scattered articles, several other authors mentioned that an African mumba had no difficulty finding the attacker in a group.

A main argument among people who support and oppose the snake’s revenge is, says the previous group, “we have seen the snake again in the same place or in the attacker’s house. If not for revenge, what? what could be the reason for it to reappear? ” . Do not die. “While the so-called opponents argue, saying,” it is only incidental. “

But, nowhere do we see a systematic study by supporters to show that it is the same snake that returned to the same area or by opponents that it is not the same snake and the appearance of the snake is for SURE, incidental. However, Science says: “The size of the snake’s brain is very small and it cannot remember for long to get revenge.” However, snakes are known to have very great olfactory power and respond to the transmission of vibrations through the substrate or soil. Several recent studies show that it is not good to judge intelligence based on the ratio of body mass to brain. For example: during the recent tsunami, no squirrels have died. They didn’t import any US earthquake or tsunami detection technology They feel the technology given by GOD. They all fled and saved their lives. The arrogant human beings, thinking that they are intelligent, died.

In the case of dogs, we see the incidents of revenge beyond all doubt. However, possessing the power to remember an incident that happened some time ago and taking revenge on an attacker are two different things. Even if a snake also remembers, it may not have the revenge psychology that we do.

However, remembering something and responding is possible at least in the case of the most intelligent and furious COBRA KING. Because, it is known that the king cobra, male / female, takes care of the eggs and when they sense that some animal or people are approaching their nest, the cobra attacks even before they face an attack. This says that they probably remember some attack experience, feel it again, and therefore attack without provocation. This only indicates that he can remember and attack, but does not clarify whether or not he will come.

The second point that supporters of the snake’s revenge cite is that, the snake that escaped arrived later when the person was sleeping and in some cases bit the same person. However, in this case, there is no evidence that it was the same snake that reappeared. Opponents say that “when disturbed or during the breeding season, snakes emit a smelly MUSK-like compound from their cloacal glands. The presence of some particles on the attacker’s clothing attracts any other nearby snake to bite. I brought him closer. ” But, again, there is no evidence that it is a different snake. Also, snakes or possums release scent when threatened. It is unclear if they pursue the scent outside of the breeding season. It is well known that snakes chase / seek their prey by smelling airborne particles. So in this case, releasing MUSK, when threatened, could also be a method to easily find the attacker later, who knows.

So my only argument is that the point of whether snakes, or at least cobras, will take revenge or not has not been studied beyond doubt. It is not correct to conclude that they cannot take revenge simply on the basis of the ratio of brain and body mass. They may have the power to remember and haunt for a long time, whether they get revenge or not.

Getting to the point where the man or woman takes revenge if their counterpart dies is a good romantic story. These stories are attributed only to divine serpents. So all of this is related to belief in divinity and in God. God is a belief, also this. Also, in India, there is a state called “Nagaland”, which means land of cobras. Also in mythology, references have been made about Nagalokam means World of Cobras. So, it may be that those people who pray cobras as their God and wear dresses and ornaments that represent cobras, are considered divine cobras that have reached human form. So if they happened to take revenge, it might be thought that Cobras would also do the same.

However, there is still a UNAMBIGUOUS STUDY on this topic.
