Description, history and temperament of the Parson Russell Terrier dog

Description: The Parson Russell terrier is similar in appearance to the Jack Russell terrier, although it is recognized worldwide as a separate breed. These dogs are about 12 to 14 inches tall, weighing between 14 and 18 pounds. They have a medium boned body, so their head appears to be in good proportion. They are very active, have a lively nature and tend to be able to run very fast due to their rather long legs. They were originally bred as working dogs and as such require a reasonable amount of exercise and attention. The coat is naturally rough and can feel rough to the touch. They are predominantly white with spots of tan or black.

Story. The Parson Russell terrier, formerly known as the Parson Jack Russell terrier, was first bred in Devon by a clergyman named John Russell. They were first bred for fox hunting, they ran with the herd keeping up with the horses, but they were small enough to drive foxes out of a den. They are closely related to Jack Russell. The Jack was removed from the Parson Jack Russell terrier name after a dispute, in the United States, brought by the Jack Russell Terrier Association, which did not want confusion between the two breeds. The Jack Russell Terrier Association did not want to be associated with any other breed of dog, no matter how closely related.

Temperament. The Parson Russell terrier is fearless and energetic with an apparent attitude of concern to the devil. They tend to get along better with owners of a similar type, although the owner would need to exercise a reasonable level of patience, and since they are curious dogs, a sense of humor will definitely help. It is a sociable dog and gets along well with children; Young children should be supervised when playing with the dog, as there may be problems if the dog is handled roughly.
