Consoles, consoles, consoles, what a load of consoles

Good question that. Who said consoles are taking over? I do not know.

The fact is, whoever or wherever you are, you’ve probably heard of consoles like Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, DS Lite, etc.

However, are they really getting hold of them? My opinion, of course not! However, they are very good sellers, as I have discussed in other articles.

But doesn’t that mean they are taking over? Not at all. Take the best seller right now: the good old (well, new actually) Nintendo Wii. This beauty has sold more than 25 million consoles since its launch in November 2006. That’s in just 18 months or so. What, 25 million! So is that console taking over? No. Let’s put this in perspective, ok.

Yes, I agree that 25 million is a huge amount. 25 million people have a Nintendo Wii. But look, today the world population is close to 7 billion people! How many million is 7BN? They are 7,000 million. And 25 million of those 7 billion own a Wii!

So, we could also say, and quite objectively, that 6.975 million don’t own a Nintendo Wii. That’s a huge number too, right?

Ok yeah, I’m digressing a bit now, but it’s just to point out that while some say consoles are taking over, it doesn’t really come close to the reality of the situation.

Ah, but, I hear you say, what about all the other console brands like PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and all the rest?

A pretty good point, but it just doesn’t change the matter, and if it does, then it’s for a little bit, nothing more.

Even with ps3 sales of around 13 million to date and Xbox 360 with 19 million sales to date, that still leaves a lot of people on the planet without a console (if that word exists).

25 million + 13 million + 19 million and let’s add another 43 million for all the other consoles (even if it’s not that much) just to get to 100 million. It still has about 6.9 billion people without a console.

So what does that tell us in conclusion? 100 million CON. 6.9 billion SIN.

Sorry folks, but consoles just aren’t taking over us, so relax, grab a bench, and turn on your console.
